Khao San Road

Sawadika! Today was a big day. We started off by waking up, grabbing some quick breakfast and taking the shuttle to Mahidol campus for MUIC orientation. We were able to get our class registration with the times and room numbers of our classes. There were a number of speakers that not only told us all about the university, but also helped us get engrained into Thai culture by teaching us some Thai words and phrases, as well as the do's and don'ts of the area.

Following orientation, a delicious lunch was provided before we got in line for our school uniforms. The uniforms for women consist of a black skirt, white blouse, Mahidol student pin, and closed toed shoes. Wearing the uniform around the city of Salaya generates respect and status for us as students in the community. Therefore, it is important that we respect the uniform by wearing it appropriately each day to class. We then took our school photos for our ID cards and the day was complete on campus.

After some quick lounging at the pool, the Bundit house group decided to take a look at Khao San Road in Bangkok! With such lively streets, it was a great introduction to Bangkok for us all. The nightlife within the city is extremely diverse, and of course, the food is absolutely spectacular. I was able to make a quick pit stop for some coconut ice cream out of a coconut (see picture below). Khao San Road is a hub for backpackers and other tourists traveling around Southeast Asia. We were able to buy Thai food in new and interesting restaurants and drinks at local bars, and barter for other Thai trinkits. There is something for everyone here...if you don't mind the spicy, yet scrumptious, food! Sorry, dad and Kathryn!
